Jeb Bush’s net worth is at least $19 million and as much as $22 million, according to tax returns made public by his presidential campaign in 2015 and public remarks by his aides.

The disclosures showed Jeb Bush’s net worth grew dramatically in the eight years of private-sector work following his departure as governor of Florida.

Bush was worth only $1.3 million when he left Florida governor’s mansion in 2007. He later earned millions in the private sector in what has been defined by journalists and pundits as a “rush to make money.”

Bush was given more than $28 million since leaving office, according to New York Times inquiry in 2014. That involved $3.2 million from serving on the boards of public companies and giving more than 100 speeches for which he was paid at least $50,000 each.

His race of wealth is well documented and will likely enhance a point of contention should he seek any public office in the future.

Jeb Bush’s Career

In 1974, Jeb Bush took up an entry-level position in the international division of Texas Commerce Bank. He soon became the branch manager and vice president of the bank’s division in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.

In 1980 he began working in real estate with Armando Codina, a highly successful businessman. His career flourished with Codina’s company and before long Codina made Bush his partner in a new development business. This business increased and made Bush a very wealthy individual.

He moved to Miami because of his business dealings and became involved in many different entrepreneurial pursuits. He became a minority owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, an American professional football franchise based in Jacksonville, Floride, and was involved in a project selling water pumps in Nigeria.

During 1980 he proposed for his father’s presidential campaign through he would himself join politics only after a few more years.

He was made the Chairman of the Dade County Republican Party in the mid-1980s and played a major role in the 1986 election of Bob Martinez to the Governor’s office. Martinez then appointed Bush as Florida’s Secretary of Commerce.

He opposed abortion and supported a law requiring parental notification for teen abortions.

In 2003, he became involved in the Terri Schiavo case, involving a woman with massive brain damage lying in a vegetative state. Her husband wanted to switch her life support, but Bush ordered the doctor’s to keep  Schiavo on life relief.

He stayed determined on the political scene even after leaving the governor’s office in 2007. In 2015, he declared his candidature for President of the United States in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
