Garth Brooks is an American country music singer and songwriter. In 2007, RIAA named him the Best Selling Solo Artist of the Century in the United States.

EARLY YEARS

Garth was born on February 7, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S. His birth name is Troyal Garth Brook. He was born to Troyal Raymond Brooks, Jr. and Colleen McElroy Carroll. He is the youngest child of his parents. He learned to play the guitar and banjo. On August 6, 1999, his mother died of throat cancer. While he was in his high school he played football and baseball. He attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and earned track scholarship there. In 1984, he graduated from there with an advertising degree. He began his professional music career by playing guitar in clubs and bars in Oklahoma. He then travelled to Nashville to pursue a recording contract.

CAREER

In 1989, he released his eponymous first album. The album successfully reached at No. 2 on the U.S. country album chart. It peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 pop album chart. The first single from the album is “Much Too Young”. His other singles from the album are “If Tomorrow Never Comes”, “Not Counting You” and “The Dance”. 

In 1990, he released another album “No Fences”. The album spent 23 weeks on the Billboard Country Music Chart as No. 1. In September 1991, he released his third album “Ropin’ the Wind”. The album became No. 1 on the pop album charts. The album includes Billy Joel’s “The River”, “Shameless” and “What She’s Doing Now”. After his album “No Fences”, his third album became a best-selling album. 

His fourth album is “The Chase”. The album reached No. 12 on the country chart. The first single from the album is “We Shall Be Free”. In 1993, he won GLAAD Media Award. The second and third single from the album are “Somewhere Other Than the Night” and “Learning to Live Again”. The final single from the album is “That Summer”. His fifth album is “In Pieces”. The album sold 10 million copies worldwide. The single “The Red Strokes” from the album reached at top 40 in the UK. His another single “Standing Outside The Fire” reached No. 23. He went on a 1994 UK tour to support the album.

He released his album “First Horses” in November 1995. The album sold over three million copies. The lead single from the album is “She’s Every Woman” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Chart. The next single from the album is “The Fever”. His another single from the album is “The Beaches of Cheyenne”. He released his seventh album “Sevens” in 1997. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums and Billboard 200 charts in the U.S. the albums includes a romantic duet “In Another’s Eyes”. The album’s first single is “Longneck Bottle”. The third, fourth and fifth single from the album are “She’s Gonna Make It”, “Two Pina Coladas” and “You Move Me” respectively. He released “the Limited Series” in 1998. In the same year, he released his first live album “Double Live”.

On November 13, 2001, he released his final album “Scarecrow”. He released “The Ultimate Hits” on August 18, 2007. The first single from the album is “More Than a Memory”. His single reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. He announced his signing with Sony Music Nashville on July 10, 2014. He went on his first world tour on July 25, 2014. He released his comeback single “People Loving People” on September 3, 2014. His new album is “Man Against Machine.

PERSONAL LIFE

On May 24, 1986, he got married to Sandy Mahl. The couple together has three children. On December 17, 2001, they got divorced. On December 10, 2005, he got married to Trisha Yearwood.
