Grainger attended Parrs Wood High School in East Didsbury, Manchester from 1999 to 2006. She started studying English Literature at the University of Leeds. Holliday then joined Open University with her passion for acting. There she gained First Class Honours Degree. Grainger was also a student of Madeley School of Dancing.
Her first taste of acting came at the age of six where she was scouted for BBC TV series. She then appeared in a number of TV series as well as independent films since she was a child.
