Justin Schultz was born on 6th July 1990, in Kelowna, British Columbia but he was raised in Westbank, British Colombia. He holds Canadian nationality and completed his high school graduation from Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary School.

Justin started playing hockey from his college level as he played collegiate hockey for the University of Wisconsin Badgers.

Before being declared for the draft as a junior, he played 121 games and amassed 40 goals. He was selected by the Anaheim Duck in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2008. He played the first 34 games of his professional career in the AHL with a record of 48 points in 34 games, leading all the defencemen in scoring.

He was also awarded by the Eddie Shore Awards in 2012-13 as the top defenceman. Justin later played his first NHL game against the Vancouver Canucks in 2012-13 NHL lockout. There he scored his first goal against Antti Niemi of San Jose Sharks.

In the year 2014, he signed a new 1-year contract with Edmonton Oliver for $3.675 million. 27th February 2016, became the worst season of his career as he just scored 10 points in 45 games. But once again he got a chance to rise by winning his Stanley Cup title when Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks in the final.

The 2016- 2017 season became the break out year in his first full season. As he set his career high goals- 12, assists- 39, point-51, penalties in minutes-34, power play point-20 and shots on goal-154. And on 1st July 2017, he signed a 3 years contract to stay with the Pittsburgh Penguins for $165 million.

In the season 2017- 2018, Justin suffered a lower-body injury while playing the game against New York Rangers and immediately he was placed on injured reserve- IR.
