The couple first met in 2008 while auditioning for a role in the musical, Once on This Island in Los Angeles. Odom was serving as assistant director at that moment and quickly hired Robinson after a cast member who left unexpectedly. They began dating eventually after the show ended. According to the statement given by Leslie, they remained as best friends for quite a long time while working on the same hood.

He portrayed several theatre roles in various musical with music and lyrics and nominated for Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.

Odom played a repetitive role in CSI: Miami, which was first broadcasted in 2003. He appeared in nine episodes as Joseph Kayle before leaving in 2006. In the Smash music TV series, Odom played a recurring role as Sam Strickland in 2012 and was promoted to a leading role in the final season of the show in 2013.

Leslie also worked along with Connor Paolo in the American police procedural, legal, crime drama TV series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. On 4th February 2018, during the NBC broadcast of Super Bowl LII, Odom sang “America the Beautiful”.
