Will justice be served against the once acclaimed producer, Harvey Weinstein? The defamed producer has been charged with sexual abuse by two different women. He surrendered to the authorities of New York on May 25, 2018. After being accused by more than 80 women of sexual misconduct, Weinstein is finally facing some legal consequences.

Harvey Weinstein Criminal Charges and Bail

Harvey Weinstein has been charged with first and third-degree rape as well as committing a criminal sexual act in the first degree by two different women. This derives from the incidents in 2013 and 2004. 

The charges were a result of a joint investigation between the police and Manhattan DA’s office. One of the women is the former actress, Lucia Evans who accused Weinstein of forcing her to perform oral sex on him in his Tribeca office in 2004.

The other alleged victim of rape has not come forward publicly. Weinstein was arraigned by the authorities of New York on May 25, 2018. He carried a few books with him into the police station. He appeared in the court and was seemingly quiet.

An agreement between Harvey’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman and the office was set to release the producer over a $1 million bail. Weinstein also agreed to wear a GPS monitoring system and constrict traveling within New York and Connecticut. He also surrendered his passport.

Harvey Weinstein Pleading Not Guilty

Harvey Weinstein has been denying all the allegations of non-consensual sex so far. Outside the court, his lawyer announced that Weinstein planned to plead not guilty. He said the charges were  “constitutionally flawed” and “not factually supported”. Brafman added, “He has entered a plea of not guilty and fully expects to be exonerated.”

However, the investigations have still been going on. One of the prosecutors encouraged victims to come forward so that charges can be pressed against the producer. Weinstein is also under investigation in Los Angeles and London. According to a source, more charges are expected as a grand jury continues to hear testimony in the state’s case with at least four women expected to testify.

Harvey Weinstein #Me Too Movement and Consequences

This is the first criminal charge against Weinstein after numerous women accused him of sexual misconduct since October 2017. The #MeToo movement began after that and started conversations surrounding cases of inappropriate behavior within the Hollywood industry. Weinstein has been accused by over eighty women till date including Anabelle Sciora, Rosa McGowan, Asia Argento, Lauren Sivan and more.

As a result, the former mogul, Harvey Weinstein was fired from his company. He was also forced out of Academy of Motion, Picture Arts and Sciences. Furthermore, he was kicked out of the Directors Guild of America. Weinstein career has taken a turn for the worse after the allegations began to surface.
