Avelyn Veloso was a well-known broadcast journalist and anchor of CNN Philippines. She used to host popular morning shows such as New Day and Morning Newsroom. In addition, Amelyn also showed the public service program “Serbisyo All Access”. Previously, she has anchored with IBC-13 and TV5. She passed away at the age of 43 due to liver cancer on August 24, 2017.

Born as Amelyn Esther Veloso- Zapanta was born on April 25, 1974, in Cebu City, Philippines. She had a brother named Philip. She was very close to her mother Amelita.

Veloso finished a degree in Broadcast Communication at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.Later, she earned a master’s degree in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines.

On 24 August 2017, Amelyn Veloso passed away at the age of 43 after battling liver cancer for three years. In her final moments, she was surrounded by her family; her husband, Rodney Zapanta, and their 14-year-old son Gab, and her mother, Amelita.

Amelyn has diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and struggling with the disease each and every moment. According to reports, she had not lost hope and faced cancer like a veteran. Finally, Amelyn was not able to bear the pain and gave up.

Following her diagnosis, the veteran broadcast journalist still went on with her duties for the morning shift of the television network. Later, Veloso underwent chemotherapy and surgery and still managed to report for work.

Staff members of CNN Philippines described Veloso as calm and collected when breaking news. “She was soft-spoken, but she also had a loud and memorable laugh. She was beautiful inside and out.” Veloso would also bake cookies and bring sandwiches to the set for her colleagues.

Veloso was managed to keep her personal life out of the spot light. Even, she was not active on social media and it is very difficult to find her personal life. However, according to some sources, she was married to Rodney. Veloso and Rodney were married for over a decade. The couple together has a son named Gab, who is 14 years old. Amelyn never disclosed any further details about their married life.
