Bob Ley Early life and Education 

Bob was born on 16th March 1955 in Newark, New Jersey.  He grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey and did his schooling from Bloomfield High School. He started his career as a broadcaster when he worked as a sportscaster at WSOU, Seton Hall University.

He also worked as an intern production staffer at WOR-AM, New York. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications. After graduating he did some broadcasting jobs with several networks such as New York Cosmos soccer team, ESPN.

In 1980 Ley hosted NCAA selection show, the first televised show, which was aired on CBS after two years. Along with Charley Steiner, a longtime broadcasting partner, he hosted an “old school” on 9th August 2004. Ley was honored with Bloomfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame award in 1987. In 2008, Ley won Commencement Speaker for the University of Hartford award. Ley was honored with the first Men in Blazers Golden Jacket during the Night of 1000 Stars for his lifetime contribution in American Soccer.

During the 35th anniversary of the ESPN cable network on 7th September 2014, Ley was honored for his contribution to the ESPN network from the beginning. Ley was only one on-air personality after Chris Berman to be honored by ESPN. He won Emmy Awards eight times for his work in Sports Journalism. He also won CableACE Awards three times for his contribution as the host of “SportsCenter” and “Outside the Lines”.

During his three decades tenure, he has covered much hard-hitting news such as the Boston Marathon bombings, September 11 attacks, Pete Rose’s suspension, and the San Francisco earthquake.
