Tate Ellington was born on 17th April 1979 in Madison, Mississippi, United States. He is the son of  Deborah Ellington and James R. Ellington, who own a residential construction company. Ellington belongs to an American nationality and holds white ethnicity. 

Ellington completed his high school from Madison-Ridgeland Academy in Madison in 1997. During his high school, he played football for school’s team. After his graduation, Ellington double majored in art and theater at the University of Mississippi.
