Sade Adu is British singer, composer, songwriter, and record producer, best known as a lead vocalist for the band Sade. She is the most famous solo artist who has sold more than 110 million albums worldwide.

Helen Folasade Adu or Sade Adu is the daughter of Adebisi Adu and Anne Hayes, and she was born on 16th January 1959 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Her father was a Nigerian lecturer in economics of Yoruba, and her mother is an English, district nurse.
Sade's parents met each other in London and started dating. They got married in 1955, and after four years of marriage, they welcomed their daughter, Helen Adu. Soon after her birth, her parents separated, and her mother shifted to London.
Sade also has an elder brother, Banji Adu Sade was raised by her single mother and grandfather in Colchester, Essex, England. She completed her education at Clacton County High School. Sade Adu started her early career as a model and also associated with the fashion designing for men's clothing. Later, Sade debuted as a backup singer with British Band Pride.
Along with Pride's guitarist, Stuart Matthewman, they introduced sets at Pride gigs. While in this group, her solo performance for the song Smooth Operator which led the record companies to scout her singing talent.

Adu signed with Epic Records on 18th October 1983 and started recording their debut album Diamond Life along with the group of "Pride," Stuart, Andrew Hale and Paul Denman.
Sooner, after releasing the album on 16th July 1984, it was in the second position in the UK Album Chart. The album was a super hit at an international level which led to selling more than 1.2 million copies in the UK. It reached to the top 10 list in the United States, sold over 4 million copies.
The album led Sade to become British Female's best-selling debut. In 1985, the album achieved the Brit Award, categorized as Best British Album.
