David Paterson is a famous politician who is better known for being the second legally blind Governor of US history. He became the fifty-fifth Governer of New York after the resignation of the governor Eliot Spitzer.

David Alexander Paterson was born on May 20, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York to labor law attorney, Basil Paterson, father, and homemaker, Portia Paterson, mother. His father was the first Afro-American Secretary of New York and the first Vice-Chair of the National Democratic Party. Similarly, his patrimonial grandmother also served for a concise time in the political arena.
David grew up along with his brother, Daniel Paterson. During his childhood, he had a serious ear infection which later spread to his optic fiber. It damaged his left eye and limited his right eye vision. His loss of sight made him difficult in his studies but even though he didn't quit and began taking special classes.
David was the first disabled student to study at the Hempstead High School. He graduated in 1971 and after that, joined Columbia University as a top student. In his first semester at Columbia, he got into dean's list. However, David abandoned his studies because he needed time to stand up for himself according to his professor. At that time, he had a painful time even though he got a job at a credit union.
Later on, David returned to his home country and completed his bachelor's in History in 1977. He then joined the law school at Hofstra University and earned a degree of Juris Doctor in 1982. Right after that, he went to Queens district attorney's office and began working as an assistant district attorney.
After his effectual effort towards his career, David started working for the David Dinkins, American politician. A year later, he won the campaign for State Senate after the politician, Leon Bogues death.
Correspondingly, he got selected to represent Harlem being the youngest state senator in New York's History. In 2007, David earned the name of New York's first African-American lieutenant governor.
